RCE Yogyakarta was invited by Ministry of National Development Planning of Indonesia (BAPPENAS), Gesellschaft fur Interantionale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and UN-DESA to attend Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR) – Implications for Accelerating Sustainable Development in Asia Pacific on 19 -21 November 2019 in Hotel Pullman, Jakarta.
The forum has evaluated the progress on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which were adopted in 2015. Entitled “The Future is Now: Science for Achieving Sustainable Development”, it is found that the current development model is not sustainable, and the progress made in the last two decades is in danger of being reversed through worsening social inequalities and potentially irreversible declines in the natural environment that sustains the world.
Nanung Agus Fitriyanto, Ph.D. as the RCE Yogyakarta and Universitas Gadjah Mada representative in the workshop said that, “In order to achieve the SDGs indicators in the government level that driven by BAPPENAS, UGM has achieved some of the goals through improving the quality of higher education and performing the students community services in the field.”
As it was stated in the forum, representatives from government, science and civil society organisations will discuss the key aspects and main findings of the report for Asia and the Pacific. In interactive workshops, participants discussed the findings and aim to make best use of the GSDR results for the region.
