Increasing Community Productivity Through VCO Soap Making Process on Appropriate Technology in Seram Utara Timur Seti, Central Maluku.

Abstract. One of the natural resources that are found in Seram Utara Timur Seti, Maluku Tengah is coconut. However, the community’s know how in utilizing their potential resources is limited. Usually, they are dried the coconut in the sun for copra, then sold for few rupiahs. Recently, few community leaders have learned how to make VCO, but the VCO product was not always in good quality. They need assistance, so they can produce better VCO and have added value for their coconut. To have better VCO product, they must know the detail process and the equipment to be used. So, by the utilization and application of appropriate technology program, how to make better VCO as well as making derivatives product from the VCO have been conducted. Soaps are personal care product to moisturize, cleanse, whiten and rejuvenate skin. Soap are basically mixture of natural oils and fats with alkali. VCO are known for its health benefits such as balancing the cholesterol levels. VCO was also proven to have sanitizing effect. So VCO soap is a premium grade natural mild soap made with organic pure VCO. By making natural VCO soap solid and liquid soap, people in Seti village will have more ways to maximize one of their potential resource. However, it still need time to upgrade processing facility for soap making, to enhance production capacity through equipment upgrading, to commercialize the technology on soap making and to enhance technology on soap making through continuous research.
