Abstract. KOTAKU or City Without Slum Areas is national project, which is implemented in some Indonesian provinces that are indicated have slums area and the people could live in living standard. The goals of KOTAKU are 100% people have access to drink water, 0% slum areas and 100% access to good sanitation. Klitren village was pointed out as one of villages in Yogyakarta city as project target, due to access to good sanitation, some slum areas and minimal access to drink water. The ESD program was applied to support KOTAKU by educating and empowering women who are active as agent of change in Family Welfare Movement (PKK). They have several programs on Lifestyle of Clean and Healthy (PHBS) and Family Empowerment. So ESD programs supported and synergized PKK programs, because they were implemented in the same target groups. The ESD programs were delivered to main/core members of PKK at village level, like Training of Trainers. After that they could serve as supervisor, mentor, facilitator for women in all level at village. Some constraints were still met in conducting good and health environment, such as waste management like waste bank, people mindset on garbage, low awareness on clean and healthy environment, densely populated area, no communal sanitation facility (septic tank) and river served as dumping ground. These problems were solved by society itself through intensive communication and communal approaches. Role of women was great, because they made regular meeting every month and the education and discussion were taken placed. KOTAKU could be applied in this village although some improvement should be done for achieving program goals. The paths were repaired and replaced by paving block. Some houses were re-settled 3 m from the river, which was also cleaned and re-constructed for widening the flow and for avoiding flood when the rain came.
