Abstract. Computer control technology in machining is a very important topic to be mastered in the learning process in vocational high school both as a theoretical or practical course. In the manufacturing industry such as automotive component manufacturing, precision component manufacturing, and the jewelry industry, the CNC machine has been used for a long time ago due to increases the productivity. However, the CNC machine must be operated by skilled labors. Unfortunately, the CNC machine tools are very expensive for vocational high schools. High investment and high operating costs are the cause. Therefore, a new way is needed to overcome this problem. The development of the mini CNC machine tools with similar characteristics with industrial-scale machines has to be done. The aim of this program is developing a mini CNC lathe machine for teaching kit in SMK Islam Yogyakarta. The mini CNC lathe machine with a specification of 180 mm swing over bed, 105 mm swing over-cross slide and distance between centers 310 mm has been successfully made. The electronic equipment was added as main control devices. Several mechanical devices were replaced with precision components such as ball screws, screw bushing, etc. The Mach 3 open-source software was used as a processor to convert the G-code program into a series of movement on each axis of the lathe machine. The calibration and synchronization between mechanical and electronic components were tested by making complex shapes cylindrical work pieces. The result shows mini CNC lathes machine has been developed. Mechanical components have been assembly and able to move simultaneity with the control of electronic components. The mini CNC lathes machine has been shown good mechanical performance to cut the metal according to the path of the G-code program.
