Abstract. The enhancement of the capacity of rural tourism managers is one of the key success factors of rural development. Tourism development requires the readiness of tourism human resources, especially the manager of tourism village, who are required to master specific skills. It is important to be prepared so that the tourism village is able to fulfill its strategic function and role, namely to improve the welfare of the community. The article aims to explain the constraints of developing tourism human resources while at the same time formulating a training model for increasing tourism resources according to the needs of tourism businesses at the community level. It is based on a field study in the tourist village of Wanurejo which is spatially closed to Borobudur Temple. The research subjects were the manager of Balkondes (village economic center), and of Bapardes (village tourism board). Data was collected by means of observation, interviews, and guided group discussions. The study produced 2 main outcomes. First, the tourist attraction map in the form of culture and crafts has become an icon for the village of Wanurejo. Its physical proximity to the Borobudur Temple encourages the community to respond and cultivate the potential of their village as a village supporting the historic site. However, strengthening the capacity and readiness of the community and village tourism managers still need to be done in a sustainable manner in order to be able to provide standard quality services for tourists. That is, the development of human resources in the field of tourism services (hospitality) is a tiered agenda so that tourism village service managers continue to improve the quality of attractions. Second, the problem identification which is followed up with practical-solutive measures. Community members, especially managers of Balkondes Wanurejo, were given excellent service training, and improved culinary presentation in the village of Wanurejo. The target is quality-oriented services and tourist satisfaction. The results of the exercise evaluation indicate the addition of skills, benefits and new insights to participants. By these measures it is expected that the development of the tourist village Wanurejo would be sustainable.
