RCE Yogyakarta together with Directorate for Community Services has held a summer course program for two weeks on 12 – 21 September 2017 in Yogyakarta. Prof. Irfan Dwidya Prijambada, Ph.D. as the Director of Community Services stated that he is very glad that the First Youth Leadership Program on Sustainable Development (YLPSD) ran as they were expected. This year, the summer course program ran in conjunction with the Second Indonesian Youth Conference on Sustainable Development we arranged the event through event-like summer course.
This summer course was attended by some participants from Indonesia, India, Thailand, Pakistan, Peru, Vietnam, and Australia as most of the universities where they come from are the members of Global RCE.
The important point about this program is that this is a part of university roles in addressing various problems within community, while reminiscing that it has become the center of information and education for students and community in general. Youth is absolutely considered as a group of people, who might contribute toward the settlement of various issues. Considerably, they are being an agent of change and future leaders as they will live up by now and coming time. Prof. Irfan Dwidya Prijambada also said that youth will be playing significant roles in changing the status quo, including several agenda in tackling problems caused by climate change. Therefore, Directorate for Community Services of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in collaboration with Regional Center Expertise (RCE Yogyakarta) on Education for Sustainable Development Yogyakarta hosted the 1st Youth Leadership Program on Sustainable Development with the theme “Community Resilience for Promoting Sustainable Development Goals in Changing Climate”. It is definitely part of a responsive role to support community resilience in related with climate change, of being our task to link knowledge and community services.
